Dimsum Signs First Telco Deals
Malaysian SVOD contender Dimsum has inked its first telco deals, joining streaming services run by Digi (Video Freedom) and U Mobile (Video-Onz).
Video Freedom, unveiled by Digi in April, comprises hourly and daily passes for unlimited access to the telco’s 10 video partners.
These include offerings from Malaysia’s main broadcast and pay-TV platforms (TonTon, Astro on the Go, HyppTV Everywhere) as well as other SVOD and OTT players, including Iflix, Viu, Netflix and YouTube.
Video Freedom’s standard rates – RM3 (US$0.8) per hour and RM10 (US$2.6) per day – are currently on offer at RM1 (US$0.3) and RM5 (US$1.3) respectively.
U Mobile’s Video-Onz meanwhile, which also launched in April, now covers 29 partner apps.
The service offers unlimited access for select postpaid and prepaid plans, with an additional quota for U Mobile’s other data services.
Dimsum launched last month with a focus on day-and-date Asian entertainment as part of a diversification push by local print major Star Media Group.
The service, focused on Malaysia and Brunei for now, is hoping to land another telco deal before year-end.
