Sky TV Adds HGTV In New Zealand

Scripps’ HGTV channel is now in the basic pack of New Zealand’s leading pay-TV operator Sky TV as part of a retransmission deal, after launching as a Freeview satellite offering in June.

The channel – Scripps’ first linear offering in New Zealand – has been building its worldwide footprint after making its international debut in Singapore just under two years ago.

HGTV is a home-oriented offering which rates highly in the US.

In New Zealand, the channel has been licensed to Top TV, a local media company majority owned by Canada’s Blue Ant Media.

HGTV To Expand Distribution Across New Zealand And Launch On Freeview Satellite And Sky TV

Auckland (24 August, 2016) – Today HGTV will expand distribution in New Zealand launching on two new platforms. From 10:00am, HGTV will be available to all New Zealanders on Freeview Satellite channel 17 and as part of SKY TV’s basic package on channel 021.

The schedule comprises of top-rated U.S. and international series including Fixer Upper, hosted by Texas design and remodelling pros, Chip and Joanna Gaines; Flip or Flop featuring husband and wife house-flipping team, Tarek and Christina El Moussa; and global real estate series House Hunters International that follows buyers looking for their dream home.

HGTV launched in 1994 in the United States and today is America’s leading home and lifestyle brand. The channel is distributed to more than 92 million U.S. households and is a top 10 cable network. HGTV first launched outside of North America in 2014 and is now available in more than 40 countries and territories outside the U.S. including Canada, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia and Australia. HGTV premiered on Freeview in New Zealand in June.
