Perform's OTT Sports Service, DAZN, Arrives In Japan

Perform Group has unveiled the Japanese version of DAZN, its ad-free sports streaming service, after paying ¥210 billion (US$1.7 billion) for online broadcast rights to J.League, the country’s top football tournament, earlier this year.

DAZN, which has rights to show over 6,000 live events a year in Japan – also including F1, Major League Baseball and NBA as well as domestic rugby and volleyball – is priced at ¥1,750 (US$14.5) per month, excluding tax.

The J.League deal – the biggest ever in Japanese sports – is for ten years, starting from 2017.

The rights are currently held by DTH incumbent Sky Perfect, which is thought to have paid around ¥5 billion per year for the games in a five-year deal from 2012-16.

Perform, majority owned by Len Blavatnik’s Access Industries, has also launched versions of DAZN in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

Live Sports Streaming Service DAZN Expands Into Japan

Sports fans in Japan are now able to sign up to the live sports streaming service for ¥1,750 a month and enjoy over 6,000 live events a year

Perform, the leading digital sports content and media group, today launches its revolutionary live sports streaming service DAZN in Japan.

For just ¥1,750 (excluding tax) a month fans will have access to the widest array of live and on-demand sport. It is available on most connected devices, there's no long-term fixed contract and no advertising. Customers can also try the service free for the first month.

As of today, DAZN gives sports fans live access to some of the best sports tournaments in the world including an incredible range of football. All Bundesliga games will be broadcast live starting with this weekend's opener between Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen. DAZN also has action from the FA Cup, Serie A, Ligue 1, and FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Plus from 2017 every game from J1, J2 and J3 leagues of Japan's Meiji Yasuda Seimei J.League will be broadcast live.

DAZN offers fans the greatest breadth of live sports ever on one TV service, with over 6,000 live events a year in Japan. The best US sports including MLB, NBA, NFL and the PGA Tour feature as well as F1®, UFC, Tennis, Boxing, Rugby, Darts and domestic sports from V League volleyball, Top League Rugby and much more.

Not only will fans have access to some of the best leagues and tournaments, but they will also have complete control over what, where and how they watch. No matter how many matches are playing, DAZN allows viewers to choose between them all and will help guide viewers, based on their sporting preferences.

The service is available on a wide range of connected devices, including Smart TVs, personal computers, tablets, smartphones and games consoles. DAZN's immersive playback experience also allows customers to pause and rewind live matches and watch games in full HD with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound.
