HBO Makes HBO Go A Standalone Service In Hong Kong
First time HBO Go over-the-top service available in Asia without pre-existing TV package and in time for new season premiere of Game of Thrones.
From April 13, HBO GO will be available as a standalone over-the-top (OTT) service in Hong Kong. This is the first time the online streaming service is available in Asia without a TV package subscription, giving any viewer with an internet connection in Hong Kong access to HBO and CINEMAX Original content across multiple devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops.
HBO GO offers unlimited access to a vast library of more than 1,000 hours of HBO and CINEMAX Original content. Besides HBO Original series like latest seasons of GAME OF THRONES, SILICON VALLEY and VEEP premiering on HBO GO on April 13, the day of its U.S. telecast, viewers will have access to additional HBO Original content on HBO GO in the form of films, documentaries, entertainment specials, family content and behind-the-scenes exclusives and previews.
With HBO GO, viewers can watch full seasons of award-winning and critically-acclaimed HBO and CINEMAX Original content including mega-hit series like THE SOPRANOS, BAND OF BROTHERS, ENTOURAGE and SEX AND THE CITY, or catch up on past seasons of current series like GIRLS, VEEP and THE KNICK. As the content on HBO GO will not be removed, viewers can watch all their favourite shows like TRUE BLOOD, TRUE DETECTIVE and THE NEWSROOM as often as they want, anywhere and anytime they want to watch it.
“The standalone OTT HBO GO service in Hong Kong now offers any viewer with an internet connection access to their favourite HBO and CINEMAX Original content,” said Jonathan Spink, CEO, HBO Asia. “HBO GO offers subscribers more choice and control over what they want to watch, when they want to watch it, and across multiple devices, whether at home, or on the go.”
HBO GO can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store for iPhone owners, or from Google Play for Android devices, and is available for HK$88 per month, after an early-bird offer of just HK$43* per month that runs until June 29.
HBO GO was first launched in Hong Kong in 2013 and is available free of charge to subscribers of HBO’s bouquet of channels available as part of the now TV Movie Pack One subscription package. With a user-friendly and intuitive interface in both English and Mandarin, subscribers can register up to three devices and watch the content on HBO on one concurrent stream.
