HKTV Statement On High Court's Ruling
Hong Kong Television Network Limited (“HKTV”) made the following statement towards High Court’s judgment to allow its application of judicial review, and quashed the decision of the Chief Executive in Council in refusing to approve HKTV’s free TV licence application and remit it back to Chief Executive in Council for reconsideration:
HKTV welcomes the Court’s judgment. According to the open policy set out by the Government in 1998, there is no limit on the number of free TV licence to be issued. HKTV has been determined to bring happiness and high quality entertainment programs to the Hong Kong society, thus supporting the development of local TV and creative industry.
Ricky Wong, chairman of HKTV said, “Thank you for the Court’s judgment. I believe that colleagues of HKTV would share the same happiness & excitement with Hong Kong people. From the very beginning, HKTV embraces a simple mission to bring more free entertainment to Hong Kong people, thus reducing grievance, conflicts & confrontation. I sincerely wish that the Chief Executive in Council can re-consider HKTV’s application, and to approve the new licence at the earliest.”
